Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has banned a gathering of more than 50 people in weddings due to the Covid-19 situation; however, a family in Jodhpur printed as many as 301 names of hosts on the invitation card. As the card went viral on social media, the local administration served the family with a notice, apart from imposing a fine of Rs 25,000.

According to preliminary reports, the cards were printed by a government school principal – Mohanlal Vishnoi  – for the weddings of his son and daughter. The wedding rituals took place in Motai village in Phalodi panchayat samiti area. The local BDO (block development officer) inspected the wedding venue after the card went viral on social media and slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 when more than 50 people were found in attendance.

As per the Covid-19 guidelines, no more than 50 people can attend wedding rituals in Rajasthan. The families are required to obtain prior permission from the local additional district magistrate (ADM) for the wedding. However, all these guidelines were violated by the family.

After the wedding card became the talk of the town, the district administration was keeping an eye on the functions. On the instructions of the ADM, the BDO inspected the venue and found that more than 50 people were attending the wedding.

The district administration also served a notice to the printing agency, seeking explanation as to how the names of 301 people were printed on the card even when it exceeds the permissible limit of guests.
