A double bench of Rajasthan high court on Monday lambasted Jodhpur police for their failure to save a man who was already under police protection due to threats from an organized gang of criminals.

The bench of Justice Govind Matur and Justice Vinit Kumar Mathur commented that there seemed to be no police and security in Jodhpur.

“What could be more shameful than the fact that a man who was under police security was killed. Had I been the police commissioner, I would have resigned,” said Justice Mathur.

The court has directed the principal secretary, police commissioner, divisional commissioner and the district collector to appear before the court in person on September 22.

Meanwhile, senior officials of Rajasthan police’ special operations group (SOG) including ADG Umesh Mishra and IG Dinesh MN reached Jodhpur on Monday night after taking over the case from the local police. They held a meeting with senior officials of Jodhpur police including police commissioner Ashok Rathore.
