Jodhpur, Jaipur cleanest railway stations in country: Cleanliness Survey Report

Jaipur has been ranked the second cleanest railway station among the 75 railways stations in A1 category in a survey report released by the union railway ministry on August 13. Jodhpur was ranked number 1 in the same category.

Jaipur: Railway stations in Rajasthan have secured top positions in the latest cleanliness survey report.

Jaipur has been ranked the second cleanest railway station among the 75 railways stations in A1 category in the country in a survey report released by the union railway ministry on August 13. Jodhpur was ranked number 1 in the same category.  The cleanliness survey report was released by Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday.

Jodhpur Junction secured the top position in the A1 category in the country. Vishakhapatnam was ranked number 1 last year. In the A category of stations, Marwar has topped the ranking , while Phulera junction has secured number 2 position.  Northwestern Railways (NWR) is the cleanest and Southwestern Railways (SWR) is on the second position. The rankings are likely to boost tourism in Rajasthan.

Piyush Goyal said that an increase of 18% has been recorded in the sanitation index of the railway stations. Thirty nine stations got more than 90% marks and 161 stations got 80% marks. The northcentral railway secured 16th rank this time and was among the least performing ones in terms of cleanliness.

The survey was conducted by the Quality Council of India (QCI) for 407 major railway stations including 75 A1 category and 332 A category stations. The first survey was conducted by the IRCTC in 2016.

Railway stations in India contributing more than Rs 500 million in annual passenger revenue are categorized as “A1” station and stations contributing between Rs 60 million and Rs 500 million of annual passenger revenue are categorized as“A” category stations. 75 stations are in A1 and 332 stations are in A category stations in India.
