Cyber fraud accused arrested
Jaipur: The cyber wing of Jodhpur Commissionerate Police has arrested a fifth accused in connection with a Rs 1.85 crore “digital arrest” cyber fraud against a woman, tracking the suspect for nearly 500 kilometres before nabbing him from Sawai Madhopur district.
The arrested accused has been identified as Janakraj, son of Bhagchand Meena (25), a resident of Pilauda in Sawai Madhopur district, police said.
Through the team’s swift action, police have so far recovered and refunded Rs 40 lakh to the victim, and prevented an additional Rs 22 lakh from being defrauded, officials said. Five accused have been arrested in the case so far.
According to the FIR registered at the Cyber Police Station on February 23, 2026, unidentified cyber criminals allegedly called the woman on WhatsApp posing as officers of an investigation agency. They allegedly told her that her Aadhaar card had been used in a criminal offence and placed her under continuous “digital arrest”, coercing her into transferring approximately Rs 1.85 crore to various bank accounts.
During the technical investigation, the team traced the accused’s location to Sawai Madhopur district. The team kept the suspect under surveillance over a distance of nearly 500 kilometres before finally apprehending him, police said.
The operation was carried out under the direction of Commissioner of Police Sharat Kaviraj and DCP (Headquarters) Shaheen C., with the supervision of Additional DCP (Quick Investigation Unit) Dhanna Ram and the guidance of ACP Cyber Thana Padmadan Charan. A team led by Inspector Suresh Saran, with Assistant Sub-Inspector Jamshed Khan and Constable Mahendra, played a key role in the arrest.
