JMC seals 32 shops in Ganpati Plaza for non-payment of lease money

The owner of 30 shops paid Rs 32 lakh lease money on the spot to avoid action following which they were allowed to open their shops; however, 32 shops are still sealed. The owners of 32 other shops were given a day’s time to deposit the lease money.

Jaipur: The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) sealed 32 shops in Ganpati Plaza for their failure to pay the due lease money amount to the civic body. The action was taken against a total of 92 shops in this landmark building on MI Road in the city.

The owner of 30 shops paid Rs 32 lakh lease money on the spot to avoid action following which they were allowed to open their shops; however, 32 shops are still sealed. The owners of 32 other shops were given a day’s time to deposit the lease money. Their shops were also sealed if they didn’t make the deposit.

The JMC team reached the Ganpati Plaza building around 9 am on Monday and started sealing shops one by one. A total of 92 shops were sealed by the noon. The owner of 30 shops pleaded with the JMC officials to give them a day’s time, so they were allowed to reopen the shop.

The owner of 32 shops paid the lease money on the spot. Senior JMC officials said that a total of 92 shops owns JMC nearly Rs 1 crore lease money since 1994.

“The shop owners were served notices served times, but they didn’t pay the dues,” said an officer.

He said that 30 shops which were given a day’s time will also be sealed if they didn’t pay their lease money dues.
