Jio Summer Surprise Offer: early subscribers to remain unaffected by TRAI order

New Delhi: In compliance with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) order, Reliance Jio has withdrawn the three months complimentary benefits of Jio Summer Surprise offer.

However the company made it clear that customers who subscribed to the offer before TRAI’s order to roll back the plan will continue to enjoy the free Internet data for the next three months and complementary services.  Jio Summer Surprise offer was only for Jio Prime members. One could become a Jio Prime member by subscribing to a 303 or higher prepaid or postpaid plan.

The company in a statement said that the full features would be rolled back over the next few days “as soon as (it is) operationally feasible”.

“Today (Thursday), the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has advised Jio to withdraw the three months’ complimentary benefits of Jio Summer Surprise,” the company statement said.

“Jio accepts this decision. Jio is in the process of fully complying with the regulator’s advice, and will be withdrawing the three months complimentary benefits of Jio Summer Surprise as soon as operationally feasible, over the next few days,” the statement added.

“All customers who have subscribed to Jio Summer Surprise offer prior to its discontinuation will remain eligible for the offer.”

Looking at the popularity of free internet data offer, the company had also extended the deadline to buy Jio’s Rs 303 (and other) plans till April 15.

Reliance Jio had announced that in “just one month, over 72 million Jio customers have signed up for Jio Prime, making it one of the most successful customer privilege programmes anywhere in the world.”

By launching Jio Summer Surprise offer, Reliance Jio had extended the Happy New Year Offer till June. So for the next three months, customers were to enjoy unlimited mobile data (with a 1GB daily data FUP) for free, 100 SMSs per day and free access to the Jio suite of apps, such as Jio Cinema and Jio Music.
