Jhunjhunu: ACB arrests ASI for taking Rs 10,000 bribe

Jaipur: Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested ASI of Sultana police station in Chidawa area of Jhunjhunu district after he was allegedly caught taking a bribe of Rs 10,000. The ASI was demanding the bribe from a man to release his bike seized a few days ago and not to register a FIR against him, the officials said.
The ACB complainant, Vikram, was playing cards with his friends on April 12 when Sultana ASI Makhan Lal raided the place along with a police team. On seeing the team, he and other escaped from the spot. The police arrested two people and seized the complainant’s bike. When a relative of the complainant went to the police station to get the bike back, the ASI allegedly demanded Rs 25,000 to release it and not to lodge an FIR against Vikram.
The ACB verified the complaint on April 14. The ASI took Rs 10,000 from the complainant at the time of the verification. On Wednesday, he was caught taking the second instalment of the bribe.
The ASI was arrested under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. He will be produced in a court on Thursday. Interrogation with him is going on, ACB officials said.
