Man opens fire at wife in Jaipur school; firing caught on CCTV

Jaipur: Panic gripped Hanuman Nagar extension area in Vaishali Nagar on Thursday when a man opened firing and shot at his wife outside a play school in full public view. A part of the firing incident was caught on CCTV as the man entered the school to shoot the wife’s sister who is a teacher at the school. The man, a retired army jawan, attempted to kill his wife just because he didn’t her to step out of home and work.

The woman, identified as Poonam Kanwar (34), had come to appear in an interview for a teacher’s job at NYMPH Play School, according to preliminary reports. Her husband also attempted to shoot at the woman’s sister who was accompanying the victim, but the gun got jammed and he couldn’t shoot.

The woman has been admitted in a hospital in critical condition. The man drove away from the spot in a car. The entire incident was caught on a CCTV installed in the school. The police are trying to find the culprit.

The incident took place outside the NYMPH School around 2 pm. The woman, Poonam Kanwar had applied for a teaching job at the school and came for an interview on Thursday. As soon as she came out of the school after the interview, her husband got off a car parked outside the building, took out a gun and started shooting. One of the bullets brushed her neck, while another pierced it. The bullet got lodged in her head. Poonam collapsed on the ground, completely unconscious. Bhawani Singh fired four bullets.

Wearing a yellow T-shirt, he then entered the school’s main entrance, beat up his wife’s sister Suman alias Pooja and cornered her on the porch near the entrance gate. He then took out a gun and fired, but the gun got jammed.

Police officials said that Bhawani Singh is an ex-army jawan and currently works as a cab driver.

Poonam’s sister was coming out of the building when she saw the shootout. She threw her helmet at the man. Infuriated over this, he tried to fire at her also, but the gun got jammed. Pooja saved herself by running back into the school building.

Suman took severely bleeding Poonam to a hospital in an auto. According to the police, the bullet got lodged in her head after piecing her neck.

The police have launched a massive search for the husband.

Bhawani Singh used to beat up his wife, so she left him and had been living with her parents for the past six months. Poonam’s mother said that Bhawani showed up at their house nearly 10 days ago. He was carrying a gun and threatened Poonam with it. The family members however didn’t report the matter to the police.
