Jaipur: Two groups of NSUI supporters clash in Banipark, 50 arrested

Many Youth Congress leaders among those held.

50 people including NSUI workers and Youth Congress leaders arrested when two groups clashed in Banipark during voting on June 17.

Jaipur: NSUI elections at Youth Congress office in Banipark turned into a major law and order situation on Saturday. The police had to resort to lathicharge and then arrested more than 50 youths, many of them Youth Congress workers, when two groups of people supporting different NSUI candidates for the president post clashed with each-other.

On a complaint registered by NSUI candidate for president post Abhimanyu Poonia, the police registered an FIR against his contender Abhishek Chaudhary who is also fighting for the top post. Those named in the FIR inlcude youth Congress state secretary Nemi Gujjar and several others including Rajesh Gujjar, Sunil Singhania, Rakesh Latha, Manoj Lora, Manoj Ghathwal, Jitu Jat Jhalana, Pramod Gujjar, Mahipal Jat, Ashutosh Chaudhar and Ishwar Chaudhary.

DCP, north Ashok Gupta said that the clash took place in a street in front of KP Motors.

One group of NSUI supporters damaged vehicles and hurled stones.

The police seized five vehicles and resorted to larthicharge.

“We detained more than 50 people from the spot for breaching peace. We have registered two more FIRs in connection with defacing public properties with posters and banners. Further investigation is going on,” said DCP.

He said that three people have been arrested for defacement of public properties.
