Jaipur: In order to reduce number of road accidents and casualties, Jaipur traffic police is all set to declare service lanes along the Express Highway passing through Jaipur as no-entry zones for heaving vehicles including trucks.

The restriction will first be imposed on the service lanes on both sides of National Highway – 8 from Bhankrota to 200-fee Bypass junction and from 200-feet Bypass to Vishwakrama Road number r- 14. The heavy vehicles won’t be allowed to enter the service lanes from 5 am to 11 pm. This 22-km stretch of service lane will be reserved for daily commuters of the city.

Sources said that the police are also planning to allow only one-way traffic on service lanes during the day time. Legal action would be taken against vehicle owners who flout these norms under the Motor Vehicle Act.

“Service lanes are supposed to be used by daily commuters. Since heavy vehicles such as trucks play on them, the risk of road accidents increases. We have decided to ban entry of heavy vehicles into service lanes. A notification in this regard will be issued soon,” said a senior traffic police officer.

The police are also mulling to ban entry of small loading vehicles such as water tankers pickups and tractor trolleys into the city limits in the day time. The entry of trucks is already banned.

Several accidents have been caused due to the trucks stationed on service lanes. The truck drivers park their trucks on the service lanes leading to mishaps.
