Jaipur traffic police seize Fortuner with fake ‘Vidhayak’ nameplate in Hathoj; driver offers bribe

Jaipur: The Jaipur Traffic Police on Tuesday evening seized a black Fortuner fitted with a fake MLA nameplate and banned black film after the driver falsely claimed the vehicle belonged to MLA Balmukundacharya and offered a bribe of Rs 20,000 to let the matter go. The car, bearing number RNN 10, was stopped during a routine check in the Hathoj area.
Head Constable Dhara Singh, who flagged down the suspicious car, was told by the driver, identified as Shyam, a resident of Jhotwara, that the vehicle belonged to the MLA and should be allowed to pass. The constable responded that he was familiar with the MLA’s authorised car because it used the same route daily, and informed the driver that the use of the nameplate and the black film was illegal.
When his claim failed, the driver allegedly offered Rs 20,000 to have the matter dropped, police said. After that was refused, another person reached the spot and, according to the police version, tried to pressure the officer by asking what he hoped to gain by seizing the car.
A check of the registration documents showed the Fortuner is registered in the name of Tushar, a resident of Salumber, with no link to the MLA or his office. Police said the driver had used the fake nameplate to secure illegal VIP treatment and avoid checking.
Traffic Circle Inspector Kavita Sharma, alerted by the head constable, directed the seizure and confirmed that the car had been sent to Kalwar police station. Kalwar Station House Officer Surendra Singh said the vehicle had been parked at the station and that further action would be taken as per law.
Contacted about the incident, MLA Balmukundacharya said he had received a call from the police station and clarified that he had no connection of any kind with the accused.
