Jaipur: Jaipur is preparing to host one of the most significant military events in its history, as the 78th Army Day parade will be held in Rajasthan for the first time on 15 January 2026. For residents and visitors alike, the celebrations promise a rare opportunity to see the Indian Army’s strength, technology and discipline up close, spread across multiple days and venues in the city.
What Makes This Army Day Special
This year’s Army Day carries the theme “Samarth Bharatiya Sena”, reflecting the Army’s focus on capability, preparedness and self-reliance. One of the highlights will be the display of advanced military hardware on a single platform, giving civilians a closer look at assets that are usually seen only during national-level parades or exercises.
Visitors can expect to see the BrahMos missile, regarded as one of the fastest supersonic cruise missiles in the world, showcased as part of the event. The missile system, with a strike range between 290 and 500 kilometres, represents India’s growing indigenous and strategic capabilities.
Another major attraction will be the Apache attack helicopter. Known for its firepower and battlefield dominance, the helicopter can carry multiple missile systems, rockets and a high-capacity chain gun. Its presence at the event is expected to draw large crowds, especially aviation and defence enthusiasts.
Alongside these, elite combat units often referred to as “ghatak” or strike battalions will also be featured. These units are trained for high-risk missions and counter-terror operations, and their participation will showcase the Army’s operational readiness against terrorism, insurgency and organised threats.
Main Parade and Key Moments
The Army Day parade on 15 January will take place in the morning, running from 10 am to 12:30 pm. This year, the Army Chief’s address will be accessible to the general public, adding to the significance of the event.
The parade will begin with a solemn tribute at the Prerna Sthal in the South Western Command area, where the Army Chief will lay a wreath in honour of fallen soldiers. This will be followed by ceremonial proceedings at the saluting base, including tributes to soldiers recognised for bravery and selfless service.
Events Leading Up to Army Day
The celebrations will not be limited to a single day. Activities will begin from 5 January, making the Army Day programme a multi-week public engagement.
On 5 and 6 January, a mega medical camp will be organised at the Army Hospital for ex-servicemen, offering health services and outreach support. These initiatives are aimed at strengthening the bond between veterans and the serving forces.
Before the main parade, full dress rehearsals will be held on 9, 11 and 13 January, each morning between 10 am and 12:30 pm. Senior Army leadership, including the parade commander, the Chief of Staff of the South Western Command and the Army Commander, will review these rehearsals. On 14 January, medal winners will be honoured at the Sapta Shakti Command Auditorium.
Evening Shows and Public Exhibitions
On the evening of 15 January, from 5:30 pm to 7 pm, the SMS Stadium will host a large-scale light and sound show. The programme will highlight the strength of Operation Sindoor and feature a coordinated drone display involving around one thousand drones, offering a visually striking experience for spectators.
From 8 to 12 February, a public exhibition will be organised at Bhawani Niketan Ground on Sikar Road, open daily from 10 am to 4 pm. This exhibition will allow visitors to explore modern military equipment, including tanks, missile systems, air defence platforms, advanced warfare technology, an Army dog show and band performances. A live battle demonstration is scheduled every afternoon between 3 pm and 4 pm, making it one of the most interactive segments of the programme.
Given the scale of the events, large crowds are expected at multiple venues. Visitors are advised to arrive early, follow security instructions and check local traffic advisories issued closer to the dates. Many of the programmes are designed for families and students, making this a unique educational experience for those interested in defence, technology and national service.
