Jaipur: Shooter arrested in Amit Nair honor killing case

Shooter fled to Mumbai and then Gota. One of them was arrested in Kuchaman in Nagaur district.

Jaipur: The city police has arrested one of the two shooters involved in the murder of Amit Nair. The accused had allegedly arranged for a pistol used by the main shooter in murdering Nair in the presence of his pregnant wife at the couple’s house in Karani Vihar area on May 17. The police have already arrested Nair’s parents-in-law at whose behest he was killed. The main shooter who had opened fire at Nair is still at large.

Senior police officers said that the accused shooter has been identified as Vinod Gora, a resident of Ladanu in Nagaur district. Vinod and his aide Ramdev had been hired by Geevanram Choudhary, Nair’s father-in-law.

Vinod was standing in front of Nair’s house, while Ramdev went inside with a pistol and opened fire at the victim.

It came up during interrogation that Jeewanram had paid Rs 50,000 to the two shooters after the murder. They fled to Surat. From Surat, they went to Mumbai and then Goa. A team was rushed to Goa, but the accused returned to Nagaur.

Vinod was traced in Kuchaman’s Krishna Nagar on Tuesday and arrested.

The police on May 24 arrested parents-in-law of Nair and their two aides. for shooting him to death in his house on May 17. After arresting them, police revealed that the parents-in-law had paid Rs 2 lakh to two hired shooters to murder Amit.

The two aides arrested earlier included Bhagwana Ram who helped the couple find shooters for the job and the other is one Ravi alias Ravindra Shekhawat. The parents had paid Ravi Rs 3 lakh to kill Amit, but he backed out at the last moment. The parents then had to hire two other shooters, paying them Rs 2 lakh. They are still at large.

Jeewan Ram Godara and his wife Bhagvani Devi allegedly murdered Amit as they were against him marrying their daughter Mamta Choudhary. Amit and Mamta were from different castes.

While Jeewan Ram was arrested from Kaithal in Haryana, his wife was held in Sikar.

The parents-in-law visited Amit’s house in Karani Vihar’s Jagdamba Colony on May 17. Two men unknown to their daughter were also accompanying them.

Jeewan Ram and his wife tried to forcefully take Mamta away, but when she resisted, one of the two unidentified men opened fire at Amit. He sustained three bullet injuries and died on way to hospital.
