Jaipur: The special Jaipur bomb blast cases court on Friday awarded capital punishment to the four terrorists convicted in the 2008 Jaipur serial bomb blasts cases. The court termed the crime heinous and a war against the national and said that it called for the stringent punishment under the IPC sections the convicts were charged with.

The defense lawyers had pleaded for leniency arguing that all the four men belonged to good families and had no criminal background. On behalf of Mohammed Saif, the lawyers argued that he belonged to a good family and his father is a SP leader. He didn’t have any criminal record and has already spent 11 years waiting for the trial to finish.

Sarwar Azmi was pursuing graduation in engineering when he was arrested for the act of terror.

The brother and father of Saif-ur-Rahman are doctors. Salman argued that he was minor at the time of his arrest and the matter of his age is to come up for hearing in Rajasthan high court.

The court of judge Ajay Kumar Sharma had convicted four of the five terror suspects, while acquitted one on Wednesday. The serial bomb blasts rocked the Walled City on May 13, 2008, killing 180 people and leaving 170 others injured.
