Jaipur: The price of a car number almost exceeded the actual value of the vehicle. At an auction conducted at Jaipur RTO, VIP vehicle number – RJ 23 CD 0001 – was sold for Rs 6.51 lakh. The bid started at Rs 11,000, but it got so competitive that RTO officials were surprised to find that a man who had bought his car for Rs 8 lakh defeated bidders who owned luxury vehicles costing around Rs 60 lakh. It is believed that it’s the highest bid for any VIP car registration number in the history of the transport department.
The number was bought by Begraj Burdak, a resident of Subhash Colony in Jaipur. Burdak had recently bought Tata Nexon and paid nearly Rs 7.52 lakh. Begraj applied for the VIP car number and attached a DD of Rs 1.01 lakh. The man will have to spend nearly Rs 50,000 more on registration and other formalities.
Among the bidders were owners of JM Enterprises who wanted the number for Mercedes E220D. According to the documents submitted to the RTO Jaipur, the car was brought for Rs 57.64 lakh. The highest bid from the firm was Rs 6.21 lakh.
“It was the highest bid ever. We were a bit surprised,” said an RTO officer. The auction was attended by DTO Ram Charan Meena, inspector Dinesh Singh and other RTO officers.
