Jaipur-resident Gajanand Sharma to be released from Pakistan jail on August 13

Gajanand Sharma had gone missing from Jaipur 36 years ago. He was reported to have been languishing in a Lahore prison since then. The Pak authorities have decided to set him free on August 13, a day before the neighboring country will celebrate its Independence Day.

Jaipur: Gajanand Sharma who has been languishing in a prison in Pakistan’s Lahore for many years will be released on August 13, according to the information received by his family members from the union ministry of external affairs.

Gajanand Sharma had gone missing from Jaipur 36 years ago. He was reported to have been languishing in a Lahore prison since then. The Pak authorities have decided to set him free on August 13, a day before the neighboring country will celebrate its Independence Day.

Gajanand’s wife Makhani Devi and his son Mukesh met union minister of state VK Singh in New Delhi. The mother-son duo was accompanied by BJP MP Ramcharan Bohara, Hawamahal MLA Surendra Pareek, BJP leader Rajendra Pareek and Snehlata Sharma.

Gajanand Sharma is a resident of Fatehram Ka Teeba in Nahargarh area of Jaipur. Sixty-nine-year-old Sharma went missing from Jaipur nearly 36 years ago. The state home department received a request for the confirmation of his identity and Indian citizenship from Pak authorities.

In his statement to the Pak authorities, Gajanand had mentioned Mahar Kalan near Samod as his native village. A Samod police team went to his ancestral house and found that the family had moved to Jaipur. They spoke to his son Mukesh over phone. It was only when Gajanand’s family members came to know about his languishing in a Pak jail.

MLA Surendra Pareek said that the family left for New Delhi in a flight on Thursday. With the help of Jaipur MP Bohara, they met minister VK Singh who informed them about the possibility of Gajanand’s release from the Lahore prison on August 13.
