Jaipur: The city reported 5 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday. While it has alarmed the health and medical authorities, no new cases were reported across the state. The number of active cases has gone up to 45.

Three cases were reported in Vaishali Nagar area of the city, while one each in Sodala and Jhotwara. Chief minister Ashok Gehlot once again expressed concerns over the rising number of cases in other states and said that the people should follow Covid-19 safety protocols strictly. Several countries across the world including Russia, the USA, UK and Turkey are reporting an increase in new coronavirus cases. In European countries, the people who have not been vaccinated are affected the worst by the virus.

“We should not be careless in the vaccination drive. People should get vaccinated. Those who have not got the second dose should make sure to get fully vaccinated as soon as possible,” said Gehlot.

The second wave of Covid-19 hit the state after the Holi festival as the people were careless and didn’t follow Covid-19 guidelines while celebrating the festival. The medical and health department officials said that the same situation was during the Diwali festival. The people crowded the markets without wearing masks and flouted social distancing guidelines.

“This could cause the third Covid-19 wave in the state. The people should start following Covid-19 guidelines,” said a senior medical and health department officer.
