Jaipur: Nearly 19 lakh people have been inoculated in the second phase of the vaccination drive for people above 60, and also those above 45 with co-morbidities.

Health officials said that Rajasthan contributed to 25% of all covid-19 vaccination in the country, in fact, on Friday, the state achieved a new benchmark after it vaccinated 2 lakh people in a single day.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and former CM Vasundhara Raje have already been vaccinated and urged others to drop any kind of hesitancy and get vaccinated as soon as possible.

All major government clinics and dispensaries are offering corona vaccinations in the city.  Beneficiaries can either register online for vaccination at the time and place of their choosing, or can walk into the clinics for on the spot vaccination.

The vaccination drive comes at a time when major cities like Jaipur and Udaipur are witnessing a new surge of daily active cases. The coronavirus tests facilities have been ramped up to meet demands but new active cases have fired warning shots about a possible second wave of the pandemic.

The doctors said that fresh surge in new infections have come after nearly three months of steady decline. People believed to have lowered their guards after seeing a drop in cases, leading to gross laxity in following the Covid appropriate behaviour.

Experts said that for the first time since January, patients with covid related complications have begun to fill hospitals.

“If you have parents who are above 60 years or have some reported pre-existing medical conditions, then it is absolutely important to get them vaccinated. Meanwhile, one must follow social distancing, and wear masks at all times,” a doctor said.
