Jaipur: In an unusual but direct attempt to curb drunk driving during New Year celebrations, Jaipur Police have announced a new awareness measure that will be implemented at hotels, restaurants and bars across the city. Under the initiative, customers will receive a pink-coloured warning slip along with their final bill, clearly cautioning them against driving after consuming alcohol.
The move is part of a broader safety plan rolled out ahead of year-end celebrations, when the city typically witnesses a rise in road accidents linked to intoxicated driving. Police officials say the idea is to create a moment of pause for partygoers at the point of exit, when decisions about driving are most likely to be made.
According to senior police officers, every hotel, restaurant and bar hosting parties will be required to hand over the pink slip to customers and display similar warning posters prominently inside and outside their premises. The message focuses on one clear instruction: do not drink and drive.
To ensure compliance, local police station officers have been directed to personally coordinate with hotel and bar managers in their areas. Establishments have been asked to complete the printing and display of slips and posters by December 30, with responsibility placed on the management to maintain cleanliness and safety standards while implementing the campaign.
Jaipur Police have also decided to appoint nodal police officers for party venues. At each hotel, restaurant or bar, a designated constable or head constable will be assigned to monitor implementation of the guidelines and act as the point of coordination between the police and the venue management.
Police officials have further instructed station heads to document compliance by capturing photographs and videos of the posters and awareness material displayed at venues. These records will be shared with senior officers to ensure that the instructions are being followed uniformly across the city.
In addition, all police stations have been directed to compile a detailed list of hotels, restaurants and bars operating in their respective jurisdictions and submit it to the Jaipur Police headquarters by December 29. This will allow authorities to track coverage and identify any venues that fail to comply with the safety instructions.
The initiative comes amid heightened enforcement plans for New Year’s Eve, with police warning that strict action will be taken against drunk driving, overspeeding and reckless behaviour on city roads. Officials say the pink slip campaign is meant to complement enforcement with awareness, reminding people that celebration should not come at the cost of safety.
