Gangster Papla Gujjar arrested by Rajasthan police: Live Updates & News
Jaipur: Jaipur Range police has arrested the most wanted criminal in Rajasthan Papla Gujjar nearly one and a half years after he escaped from Behror police station of Alwar district. A female friend of Papla alias Vikram was also arrested.
According to preliminary reports, the gangster was arrested from Kolhapur in Maharashtra. A police team led by add SP Siddhartha Sharma had been camping in Kolhapur for the past one week, DGP Rajasthan ML Lather told media persons in a press conference here.
Here are the lives updates in the case of Papla Gujjar’s arrest:
- Papla was brought to Jaipur from Maharashtra in a flight. He was brought out of the airport around midnight. He was made to wear a black mask.
- The team which caught him in Kolhapur was also with the criminal as he came out of the airport.
- Papla and his gym trainer girlfriend was produced in a court in Behror town of Alwar district under heavy security.
- Papla was remanded in 7-day police custody.
“The police team identified the house in which Papla was hiding. They also collected information from different sources in Kolhapur including gym owners, migrant Rajasthan residents, and dhaba owners. Footages of CCTVs installed in the area were analyzed to determine the criminal’s movements,” said DGP Lather.
He added that the team surrounded the house around midnight on Thursday.
“Papla tried to escape. In fact, he jumped off the building and hurt himself. However, the armed police commandos surrounded him and arrested him. The team is bringing him and his female friend to Jaipur,” said Lather.
Gujjar and his gang members had fired at policemen using AK-47 guns inside the police station premises to escape. He was carrying a cash reward of Rs 3 lakh on his head. Many of his accomplices have already been arrested.
The case was being investigated by Rajasthan special operations group (SOG). When he escaped, the Rajasthan police announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh which was later increased to Rs 5 lakh. The Rajasthan police launched a massive hunt for him with the help of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh police, but to no avail.
Nearly 30 members of Papla Gujjar gang have been arrested by Rajasthan since his escape on September 6, 2019. All of them are in judicial custody.
Papla alias Vikram Gujjar was arrested by the patrolling team at 3.30 am on September 6. He identified himself as Sahil. The police seized a cash amount of Rs 31.90 lakh from his possession. The police had no clue that the man they had arrested was a wanted criminal when he was brought to Behror police station.
A group of about 15 criminals stormed into Behror police station in three vehicles around 8.30 am on September 6. They were armed with AK-47 guns. They started firing inside the police station indiscriminately to free Papla. There were 11 policemen including SHO Sugan Singh in the police station at that time. Sugan Singh fired at the criminals, but his gun got jammed. The criminals left with Papla.
