Jaipur: A Jaipur-based mining businessman has approached the police after receiving extortion threats demanding Rs. 5 crore through WhatsApp calls and voice messages. The caller allegedly identified himself as a member of gangster Rohit Godara’s gang and warned the businessman of serious consequences if the demand was not met.

According to the complaint, the threats were made using international mobile numbers, raising concerns over the use of digital platforms and overseas networks for organised crime activities.

The businessman, a resident of the C-Scheme area under Ashok Nagar police station limits, stated that he first received WhatsApp calls on December 30 from unknown international numbers. During the call, the caller claimed links to the Rohit Godara and Rahul Rinau gangs and demanded Rs. 5 crore as extortion money.

The following evening, on December 31, the threats were repeated through another WhatsApp call, accompanied by a voice note. The voice message allegedly used intimidating and violent language, warning that failure to pay would result in harm to the businessman and his family.

After receiving the threats, the businessman lodged a formal complaint at Ashok Nagar police station. Acting on the complaint, the police registered an FIR and initiated an investigation.

Ashok Nagar police station ASI Rajkumar said that the investigation is being carried out based on the WhatsApp calls and voice notes received by the victim. The police are examining the mobile numbers used to make the calls and are trying to trace their origin and the individuals behind them.
