Jaipur metro phase 2 to be linked to Jaipur airport terminals
Jaipur: Plans to extend Jaipur Metro services up to the city’s international airport have moved a step forward, with key agencies agreeing in principle to link all airport terminals through an underground metro station. The development comes after a high-level coordination meeting between metro authorities and airport officials, signalling renewed momentum for Phase-2 of the Jaipur Metro project.
The meeting, held at Jaipur International Airport, focused on ensuring seamless passenger movement between the city and the airport while addressing security, operational, and alignment-related concerns.
Officials confirmed that the proposal includes direct metro access to Terminal-1, Terminal-2, and the upcoming Terminal-3, a move expected to significantly reduce travel time and congestion on airport-bound roads.
Senior representatives from Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation, the Airports Authority of India, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Central Industrial Security Force, and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security participated in the discussions, alongside airport management officials.
According to Jaipur Metro officials, the Sitapura–Todi Mod corridor, passing through the airport zone, is designed to integrate industrial hubs, residential areas, and major public institutions into a single rapid-transit spine. The corridor is expected to serve daily commuters as well as air travellers, easing dependence on taxis and private vehicles.
Metro Director (Company Affairs) Mahesh Bhuradia said the airport alignment would strengthen Jaipur’s overall transport network by providing direct, time-efficient, and environmentally sustainable connectivity.
Airport authorities, meanwhile, highlighted that issues related to passenger circulation, safety protocols, station access, and operations were discussed in detail, with agencies agreeing to move ahead in coordination to avoid delays.
Once operational, metro access to the airport is expected to cut travel time from key city zones, reduce traffic congestion on arterial roads, lower reliance on private vehicles and app-based cabs and promote safer and greener urban mobility
Urban transport experts note that airport metro connectivity often becomes a catalyst for broader transit adoption, especially in cities experiencing rapid expansion.
If implemented as planned, Jaipur would join a limited group of Indian cities offering direct metro connectivity to the airport, a feature increasingly seen as essential for modern urban infrastructure.
