Jaipur: Rajasthan anti-terrorist squad has arrested one Uma Shankar Gupta (42) who is allegedly the mastermind behind the ‘NEET-2017 paper leak’. Rajasthan police had busted a gang involved in duping students in the name of providing NEET 2017 paper and getting a place on the exam’s merit list for admission in medical colleges. Sources said that Uma Shankar had been arrested in connection with paper leaks related to medical entrance examinations in the past too.

Uma Shankar who runs Eduguides and Consultancy firm was arrested from Delhi. He dupes medical aspirants under the cover this agency, ATS officials said.

A team led by ASP Bajrang Singh Shekhawat carried out raids at several places in Delhi including Grater Kailash Enclave, Hotel Corporate Park and independent houses in search of Umashankar.

Marksheets of many students and other documents were seized from the possession of Uma Shankar, SP ATS Vikas Kumar said.

The accused has been arrested for medical entrance paper leaks in Shimla in 2006 and Telangana in 2015.

“He is a habitual criminal. His brother also has a police record. Umashankar and his brother Ashok are partners who run a paper leak gang,” said the officer.

The ATS earlier revealed that the members of this paper leak gang had been paid hefty amount of money by children of prominent doctors, builders and businessmen for admission in medical colleges.

The ATS had detained 11 students who reportedly paid money to this gang. One of the students is the son of a prominent doctors in a government hospital in Jaipur’s Hasanpura. Another student is the son of a prominent builder based in Mumbai. One student belongs to Madhya Pradesh and his father is a known businessman.

It came up during preliminary investigation that each of these students paid the gang members Rs 30 lakh to get admission in medical colleges.

The ATS earlier arrested five members of this gang including an employee of the state government’s animal husbandry department and members of medical mafia in Delhi.

Those who were arrested are Vikram Singha, his brother   Vikas Kumar Sinha, Bhupendra Sharma, Ashok Gupta and Rahul. Vikram and Vikas was living in Sun & Moon Apartments in Vidhyadhar Nagar’s Sector – 5. They hail from Savitri Nagar in Delhi. Bhupendra Sharma was an employee at the state government’s animal husbandry department.

The gang was selling papers to NEET aspirants through an office – Edu Guides and Edu Target Consultancy Private Limited – in Jaipur’s Ganpati Plaza. The paper seized from this gang was, however, found not to be matching with the actual paper.
