Jaipur: Masala Chowk in Jaipur has become a popular hangout place in a short span, to the extent that the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) will make visitors pay an entry fee. A person visiting Masala Chowk will need to buy a Rs 10 ticket to gain entry. Only children aged below 4 years will be exempted.

The decision has been taken to keep at bay people who are coming to the place just for fun and make it crowded for families and tourists.

“The place is becoming very crowded, particularly in evenings and on weekends. We have seen that many youngsters visit the place just for fun and don’t buy anything. We want the place to be convenient for tourists and families,” said a JDA officer.

The civic body plans to spend the money on the maintenance and sanitation of the place.

Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje had recently mentioned Masala Chowk in her budget speech.

Another issue that visitors are facing is the unregulated parking. Since the staff at stalls parks their vehicles at its parking, there is place for visitors. Many people working at nearby officers also park their vehicles outside Masala Chowk.

“We will make the employees at the stalls to park their vehicles at Ram Niwas Garden underground parking,” said the JDA officer.
