Jaipur: A 25-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband late Friday night at Swami Ka Bas village under Chaksu police station limits, with the accused spending the remainder of the night beside her body before family members discovered the crime at dawn.
Police identified the victim as Sunita (25), originally a resident of Shyopur in Sanganer, and the accused as her husband Ramavatar Raigar, a resident of Swami Ka Bas village in Chaksu. The couple had married in 2020 and lived with Ramavatar’s parents, brother and sister-in-law in the village.
According to police, a quarrel broke out between the couple late on Friday night. In the ensuing altercation, Ramavatar allegedly slit Sunita’s throat with a knife. As she attempted to flee, blood spread across the walls and floor of the room. After the killing, Ramavatar allegedly turned the knife on himself in an attempt to take his own life, sustaining injuries to his throat. He then remained seated beside Sunita’s body through the night.
At around 6 am on Saturday, family members woke up and found Sunita’s body lying near the gate of the house, with an injured Ramavatar seated beside it. Police were called to the scene and took both to hospital. After Ramavatar received primary treatment, he was taken into custody. Sunita’s body was sent to the mortuary at CHC Chaksu for post-mortem.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that Ramavatar had been unemployed for a considerable period, which had reportedly been a persistent source of conflict between the couple. Sunita’s brother Mukesh filed a murder case, alleging that both Ramavatar and his family members had subjected Sunita to harassment over dowry.
