Jaipur Literature Festival - 2024 to kick off on Feb 1

Jaipur is gearing up for the prestigious Jaipur Literature Festival, set to take place from February 1 to February 5 at Hotel Clarks Amer.

Dubbed the ‘Kumbh of Literature,’ this event will draw writers, speakers, and intellectuals from across India and the globe. Each year, the festival offers a unique program, and 2024 is no exception. It promises to feature discussions in 10 Indian and 7 international languages.

The 2024 edition is particularly noteworthy for its impressive lineup of over 250 speakers, including winners of prestigious awards like the Booker, Pulitzer, and Padma recognitions.

The festival’s program, recently unveiled, covers a diverse range of topics such as fiction, crime literature, history, politics, poetry, art, gender issues, science, and more.

Namita Gokhale, the festival’s Co-Director, emphasized the event’s role in showcasing Indian literature and languages on a global stage. The festival will celebrate the diversity of Indian languages, from Sanskrit to regional languages like Assamese and Tamil.

In addition to literary discussions, the festival pays homage to oral traditions and transcends international boundaries, embodying the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ or ‘the world is one family.’

William Dalrymple, co-director and renowned author and historian, expressed his pride in elevating the festival each year. He highlighted the variety of eminent personalities attending, including novelists, poets, journalists, scientists, artists, and more.

Sanjoy K. Roy, Managing Director of Teamwork Arts and Producer of the festival, shared that the 17th edition in 2024 will focus on literary criticism, science, environment, law, mental health, and geopolitics. The event promises an array of award-winning speakers, including Demos Galgut, Mary Beard, and Hernan Diaz, among others.
