Jaipur: Almost two weeks after 34-year-old woman, identified as Shashi Rathore and her 7-year-old son Kanishka were found hanging in two different rooms at their house in Nityanand Nagar in Vaishali Nagar, the city police arrested the woman’s husband for abetting suicide and dowry harassment. The police officials said that the woman had hanged her son before ending her life. She had left a suicide note in which she alleged that she was being harassed by her husband.

The woman’s husband Garvendra Singh is a lecturer at a private college in Rajapark area.

Shashi’s father Raghunath Singh had registered an FIR on July 8, five days after the suicide, alleging dowry harassment.

The woman’s father alleged that Garvendra and his family members were demanding Rs 50 lakh from Shashi so that they could buy a flat. Shashi was asked to get the money from her parents, but when she refused, they started harassing her, the father alleged in the FIR.

Shashi had also reportedly left a suicide note accusing Garvendra of harassing her.

After preliminary investigation, police suspected that Shashi hanged her son and then committed suicide.

In a statement, Garvendra had told the police that he found the door bolted from inside when he returned from college on Monday afternoon. He knocked repeatedly, but got no response.

He then peeked into the house through a window and saw his son hanging from the ceiling.

Garvendra gained entry with the help of his neighbors. Her wife and son were hanging in two different rooms.

The family was living in a rented accommodation.
