Jaipur: The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested a sub inspector (SI) of Jhotwara police station, identified as Sagar Mal after he was caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 60,000. The ACB also held a CLG member, Ramdhan, who was playing the role of a middleman. The officials said that the ACB complainant had a case of fraud registered against him in a land dispute case. The SI was demanding the bribe for not arresting him in the case.

According to ACB officer Narottam Varma who laid the trap, the complainant was asked to come to the police station in the name of investigation into the case registered against him.

“On Thursday, our complainant was not called to the police station and was allowed to leave until he promised that he would pay a bribe of Rs 60,000. Sagarmal was initially demanding a bribe of Rs 2 lakh, agreed to accept Rs 60,000 after negotiations,” said the officer.

The officer said that the man approached the ACB following which a trap was laid. After verifying the complaint, the complainant was asked to hand over the bribe to the SI.

Sangar Mal and CLG member Ramdhan were caught red-handed taking the bribe. They were arrested under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

“Further investigation is going on,” said the officer.
