Jaipur Greater commissioner seeks police protection

Jaipur: Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation commissioner and IAS officer – Yagyamitra Singh Deo – wrote a letter to the Home Department seeking police protection. In the letter, he stated that he feels unsafe from some public representatives who have threatened him in the past. The letter was sent to the additional chief secretary (home) almost a month ago, but it is going viral now.
In the letter, the IAS officer has referred the dispute with Mayor Soumya Gurjar and councillors last year. He stated that he should be given police protection at his residence as well as the office.
The IAS officer had accused the mayor and the councillors of manhandling him and holding him hostage after a meeting in June last year. He alleged that he was abused. A police case was also registered in this regard at the Jyotinagar police station. Last month, some councillors had raised slogans against him and staged a protest at the Jaipur Greater headquarters.
He said that even after the Supreme Court order, some councillors still have a grudge against him. There is a possibility of any untoward incident at his residence and office.
Soumya Gurjar however told media persons that there was no such threat to him from her or her supporters. “We are public representatives, elected by people. We are not criminals, so these allegations are unfounded. But any official or person feels threatened, it is for the government to provide protection,” she said.
