Jaipur: Electricity bill of more than Rs 20,000 to be paid online only

Jaipur: Jaipur discom has now made it mandatory for people to pay an electricity bill of more than Rs 20,000 online. It means that if your power bill exceeds the limit of Rs 20,000, you need to pay the bill online. You can no longer make the cash payment or pay it with a cheque.

Agencies or emitra which accept cash payment or cheque payment will be slapped a fine of Rs 500 and Rs 2000 respectively, senior Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (JVVNL) officials said. Consumers having an agriculture connection have been exempted from this requirement. They can still make the payment with cash or cheque even if their bill exceeds the limit of Rs 20,000.

JVVNL is now promoting online payment. Jaipur discom officials recently announced cash incentives for consumers in Jaipur who pay their electricity bill online using the Bijli Mitra App. A total of 1000 consumers were selected through an online lottery. These consumers will get a cash incentive of Rs 5000 each. JVVNL officials announced a budget of Rs 5 lakh to provide cash incentives to its consumers under this scheme.

“It’s a great way of paying bills without any hassles. You no longer need to go to electricity department offices or emitra. You can pay the bill from the comfort of your home. It’s also helps us to reduce wastage of resources. Collecting cash payment from agencies and vendors and then depositing in banks is a huge exercise,” said an officer.
