Jaipur: The Jaipur East district police recovered 400 lost or stolen mobile phones in April under a special drive named ‘Operation Re-Call’ and registered two cases against operators of fake bank accounts under the Mule Hunter campaign of the Police Headquarters, according to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ranjita Sharma.

The phones were traced from various districts of Rajasthan and other states with the help of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal of the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India. Police said 390 of the 400 recovered phones have already been handed back to their owners at the police station level. With this, the total number of mobile phones recovered by Jaipur East district through the CEIR portal in 2026 has gone up to 790, with an estimated market value of approximately Rs 1.5 to 2 crore.

Alongside the mobile recovery drive, the Cyber Cell of Jaipur East has held an amount of approximately Rs 3.85 crore (Rs 3,85,24,353) in fraud-related complaints filed on the cyber portal till April this year, and has secured refunds of approximately Rs 65.48 lakh (Rs 65,48,465) to victims’ bank accounts.

Under the Police Headquarters’ special drive against fake bank accounts, ‘Operation Mule Hunter’, one case each was registered at Bajaj Nagar and Pratap Nagar police stations in April. Two accused were arrested and 17 preventive actions were taken against suspects, the press note said.

The drive was carried out under the direction of DCP (East) Ranjita Sharma, the supervision of Additional DCP Alok Singhal (RPS), and was led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cyber) Priyanka Vaishnav (RPS) along with the technical wing, in coordination with all police stations of the district. Police said the recovered phones belonged to senior citizens, women, daily-wage workers, students and government and private sector employees.

In a public advisory, the police urged citizens to upload reports of lost or stolen mobile phones on the CEIR portal themselves to track their devices, and to lodge cyber fraud complaints on helpline number 1930, the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal or cybercrime.gov.in. The advisory also cautioned the public against sharing bank account details with anyone for monetary gain, and asked them to immediately inform the nearest police station if approached by anyone offering to buy or sell bank accounts.
