Jaipur: The Jaipur branch of the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) has arrested a man identified as Aditya Gupta in connection with the alleged GST evasion of Rs 58 crore. Gutpa is said to be the mastermind of the gang that was busted last month. Three members of the gang including a Jaipur-based tax consultant – Pankaj Khadelwal – have already been arrested. It’s fourth arrest in the matter. The investigation is still going on, sources said.

Aditya was picked up around 11.30 pm on Wednesday and brought to Jaipur. He will be produced in a special court for economic offense cases on Thursday. DGGI is likely to seek his police remand further interrogation.

DGGI had arrested three people in May after carrying out raids at 21 places in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh and examined documents related to 87 firms. After examination of the documents pertaining to the trading of more than Rs 316 crore, a tax theft amounting to Rs 58 crore was detected. Apart from Pankaj Khandelwal, two others – Sandeep Kumar Agarwal, a resident of Ghaziabad and Sri Kumar Singh were also arrested.

The accused used to set up bogus firms and deposit input tax credit in their accounts to evade GST. The tax was never deposited with the department.

Pankaj Khandelwal is a resident of Gujjar Ki Thadi in Jaipur. He claims to be a tax consultant and has an office at Okay Plus Square building on Madhyam Marg in Mansarovar. Rs 48 lakh cash was allegedly recovered.
