Jaipur: Pollution check of the vehicles in Rajasthan can now be done in the next two months without getting penalized. The Transport Department has given a concession of two months by waiving off the penalty charges. The deadline which was earlier November 4 has been extended because the software to be used for transferring the penalties directly to the official account is still not ready.

The work of software preparation has been given to Rajasthan Electronics and Instruments Limited (Reel). Transport Commissioner Shailendra Agarwal said that necessary provisions are being made to get the the online system ready. The penalties had been announced on October 4, but the scheme hasn’t been fully implemented. There is a provision for payment of penalty with no fee for renewal in the prescribed period. As per the orders from the department, the penalties to be charged from the two-wheelers are Rs 200, from four-wheelers Rs 500 and even bigger vehicles than this are Rs 1000.

For the renewal of pollution certificate, the photograph of the vehicle is taken and its other data is fed into the software. Information about owner’s name, address, etc is also required. Officials have also been demanding the registration certificates of the vehicles. If these aren’t presented, the owners of such vehicles have been denied pollution checks. At some PUC centers, even vehicle purchase receipts have been demanded.

RTO Kalpana Agarwal has stated that bills of vehicles and RC books are not required for pollution checks. If any center demands these a team will be sent to investigate the matter.
