JAIPUR: The city’s additional chief metropolitan magistrate court – 1 has turned down a maintenance plea of an England-based eye doctor seeking Rs 15 lakh monthly. The wife cited the need for support for herself and her two daughters.

The court observed that neither the wife nor the daughters are mentally or physically impaired. They also possess higher education and have their own income.

The wife had sought maintenance under the Domestic Violence Act. In the application, she stated that she married Gurugram resident Aditya Meena in 2008 at Jaipur’s Rambagh Palace.

Post-marriage, she alleged severe dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws. She recounted physical, mental, and sexual abuse from her spouse. She also claimed that her husband offered no support during their daughters’ births and pressured her to quit her job.

Aditya Meena countered her claims, stating that there was no medical or other evidence supporting her allegations of abuse. He also highlighted that though she had accused him of confining her for 10 days in August 2009, no legal or social action followed from her family’s side.
