Jaipur: CBI registers FIR against BSNL officer for accepting bribe

Sub-divisional engineer of BSNL, identified as Harkesh Meena allegedly demanded bribe to release payment for the laying of BSNL cable.

Jaipur: The central bureau of investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR against sub-divisional engineer of BSNL, identified as Harkesh Meena, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 70,000, according to reports.

Meena managed to avoid the trap and getting caught red-handed as he allegedly disappeared after taking the bribe money. The CBI booked him for demanding a bribe of Rs 2.20 lakh, according to a Hindi daily.

After registering the FIR, the CBI searched his house situated near SKIT in Jagatpura area of Jaipur and found documents showing ownership of some plots and bank accounts.

The officer was allegedly demanding bribe to release payment for the laying of cables from Alwar to Jaipur. A Mansarover-based youth had registered a complaint against Meena who was demanding money at the rate of Rs 2 per meter.

After verifying the complaint, the CBI made the complainant spoke to Meena over phone. A CBI team was deputed at the BSNL office on December 28 when Meena allegedly asked the complainant to come over to his office; however, after the money exchanged hands, Meena allegedly left the office using the back door of the building.
