Jaipur: Rajasthan police’s CID-CB has arrested an Indian jawan who was honey-trapped by a Pak-based woman. The jawan allegedly shared sensitive information with the woman about the army locations and movements in the Jaipur cantonment.
The jawan was identified as Shantimoy Rana. He was under surveillance of CID for the past several days. He was taken into custody on July 25 and booked under relevant sections of the law when it was confirmed that he shared sensitive information in lieu of money.
A senior police officer said that 24-year-old Shantimoy has confessed to sharing sensitive info with his Pakistan handlers during an interrogation by the army and police.
He had been in touch with Pakistani intelligence agents through social media for a long time. Shantimoy, a resident of Kanchanpur in Bankura district in West Bengal, joined the Indian Army in March 2018.
It has come up during preliminary investigation that a Pak agent who posted as Gurnoor Kaur alias Ankita told him she was a resident of Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh in the military intelligence in Shahjahanpur. He was also in contact with another woman who posted as Nisha and told him that she was working in the Military Nursing Service. They used to have WhatsApp video calls.
These two women lured jawan and honey trapped him. He then started exchanging information for bribes. The agents asked for sensitive and confidential documents of the regiment and videos of army movements from him. The police have traced some suspicious transactions to his bank account.
His mobile phone and other gadgets have been seized.
