Jaipur: Some areas in Jaipur have started reporting more than 100 Covid-19 cases daily. On Monday, Malviya Nagar reported 118 cases, while 102 people tested positive in Pratap Nagar. The daily case count went up to 2011 for the first time in the city.

Situation in several areas including Ajmer Road, Amer, Banipark, Jagatpura, Jawahar Nagar, Jhotwara, Patrakar Colony, Sodala, Tonk Road, and Vaishali Nagar is getting worse with each passing day. The daily count is increasing despite the ongoing 2-week lockdown in the state.

Most hospitals in the city where Covid-19 patients are being treated are reporting a severe shortage of beds and oxygen. There are nearly 1200 beds in RUHS Hospital in Pratap Nagar. Sources said that they are no longer available.

Senior district administration officials said that they are making all necessary preparations to accommodate the increase in the hospitalization requests. If necessary, a new Covid-19 centre will be opened in SMS Hospital also, they said.

Experts said that the second wave is turning out to be more contagious than the first wave in Rajasthan. In all major cities including Udaipur, Jodhpur and Kota, the virus is spreading at an alarming rate compared to the first wave. In Jodhpur, the virus has claimed over 70 lives in the past 20 days.
