Jaipur airport: Man arrested with 200 packets of foreign-made cigarettes

Jaipur: The customs department seized around 200 packets of foreign-made cigarettes from a passenger who landed at Jaipur Airport on Tuesday. The passenger arrived in Jaipur by a Bangkok flight. It is suspected that he was trying to smuggle foreign-made cigarettes to certain bars in Jaipur.
The investigative agencies are interrogating the suspect. Around 200 packets of foreign-made cigarettes have been found from the accused man’s baggage, officials said.
According to the officials, the man was acting suspiciously and was checked by CISF Jawans at Jaipur airport. He arrived in Jaipur from Bangkok. After he was thoroughly checked, around 200 packets of foreign cigarettes were found from his baggage. He was taken into custody for further interrogation. The officials are yet to disclose the identity of the suspect.
As per preliminary reports, the accused was smuggling foreign cigarettes to a bar in Jaipur.
Many cases of smuggling have been reported at Jaipur airport in the recent past. The customs department has seized more than 300 kg of gold over the past one month.
With the increasing number of cases, investigative agencies like DRI, CGST, Customs, Income Tax Department, Commercial Tax Department with CISF and airport authorities have been put on alert.
