Jaipur: 2 children hit by train in quest for selfie

Investigations revealed that the group of five teens went to railway tracks near Dravyawati river to take a selfie with a train. When the train approached, three of the children managed to get away from the tracks. However, the two children were run over by the train, said police.

Jaipur:  The bodies of the two teens who died after they were run over by a train while riding bicycles near the railway tracks near Durgapura railway station of Jaipur were consigned to flames on Friday after they were identified by the family members. The relatives came to know about the incident after reading stories about the incident in the newspapers on Friday morning. They claimed the bodies from the mortuary.

Investigations revealed that the group of five teens went to railway tracks near Dravyawati river to take a selfie with a train. When the train approached, three of the children managed to get away from the tracks. However, the two children were run over by the train, said police.

The children have been identified as Kamal Sindhi (10), a resident of Thadi market area of Mansarovar and Ajay Jatav (12), a residence of the same colony.

The family of Kamal Sindhi did not have enough money for the funeral. Neighbors and a nearby Gurudwara committee provided financial assistance following which the family could perform the last rites of Kamal Sindhi.

The relatives of Ajay Jatav took his body to Bharatpur for the funeral.

As per the relatives, Kamal was the only son in his family. His mother Leelawati works as a maid in houses and father is a labour. Leelawati has two daughters. Of which, one got married and another is studying.

Six-year-old Manish Bairwa, a residence of the same colony, was an eye-witness and revealed to the police how the tragedy occurred. He was among the five children who were riding bicycles near the tracks.

According to the police, the group of five friends including Kamal, Ajay, Manish, Neeraj, and Lokesh were playing in Dwarkadas Park around 11 am on Thursday. They then went to the railway tracks of Durgapura near Dravyavati riverside.

When the train arrived, Manish, Neeraj, and Lokesh screamed and ran away from the tracks. But Ajay and Kamal were taking the selfie. They were run over by the train.

The three children fled away from the spot as they were scared. They came home and did not tell anyone about the incident.

Kamal and Ajay’s family members, unaware of the accident – were looking for them on Thursday night, as they did not arrive home till late night.

The family members then went to the Shipra Path police station on Friday morning. Police informed them about the incident. The officials there showed them the pictures.
