Jaipur: 1 more arrested for spreading COVID-19 rumours on WhatsApp

Jaipur: The cyber crime cell of Jaipur police commissionerate has arrested one more man for spreading misleading information and rumours about coronavirus (COVID-19) through WhatsApp. The police have arrested 18 people in the city so far. Senior police officials said that a cyber cell is working round the clock and keep a tab on people who are using social media for spreading rumours. The police said that complaints in this regard can be registered on their WhatsApp helpline number: 7300363636.
The man was identified as Hemendra Jangam alias Hemant, a resident of Karuali district. He was arrested in Mahesh Nagar police station area.
“He was spreading misleading messages through WhatsApp. We are identifying people who are involved in these acts. They will be booked under relevant sections of the IT Act,” said a senior police officer.
The officer added that 10 FIRs were registered under the Disaster Management Act for violation of the lockdown guidelines. As many as 17 people were arrested for violating section 144 of CrPC which bans gathering of people. The police have also seized 470 vehicles.
Each police station has been provided two drone cameras to keep a watch on public places and the movement of people. The video feeds are being monitored at Abhay Command Centre.
