Jaipur: The leaders of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) protested as part of their ‘Jail Bharo Movement’ in Rajasthan on Friday and courted arrest in Jaipur near Civil lines area.
The workers kick started ‘Jail Bharo Movement’ from the party’s Jaipur office and marched to Civil lines railway crossing accusing the Congress government of betraying voters and not fulfilling the promises that they made before coming to power. The BJP alleged that the Congress had farmer loan waiver, 10% reservation to economically backward classes and unemployment allowance, but nothing has been done in this regard.
The office-bearers of the BJP, legislators, MPs, councilors and senior leaders courted arrest on Friday.
Heavy police force was deployed to keep a tab on law and order situation in the city. Police put up barricades to restrict the BJP workers on Rajmahal Chauraha of Civil Lines. The workers tried to cross the barricades forcefully, causing the police to resort to lathicharge. Some BJP workers were injured.
The police arrested several party leaders including Madan Lal Saini, Ashok Lahoty, Kalicharan Saraf, Mohanlal Gupta, Ramcharan Bohra, Suman Sharma, Vasudev Devnani and Ashok Parnami at Civil Lines.
The BJP started the statewide ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’ on January 28. They allegedly claimed that the Congress Party has manipulated and betrayed the public with their promises and came to power.
The BJP workers are demanding implementation of 10 % reservation to Economically Backward Class (EBC), farmer’s bank loan wavier and unemployment allowance.
