JAIPUR: The ongoing work on the Rajasthan government’s ambitious project – IPD Tower linked to SMS Hospital – has got delayed by at least two months. In the first phase, 12 floors of the 24-storey building are being constructed, but only one-fourth of the work has been completed so far. The delay is being attributed to some issues that have come up regarding structural drawing approvals.

The government had set the target of completing the first phase of the IPD Tower project by October. Over 250 labourers have been employed in three shifts to work round the clock and complete the project within the deadline. However, sources said that there has been a delay in the approval of structural drawings.

The tower is being built with a budget of Rs 459 crore. Of the total budget, Rs 419 crores are being spent on the construction of the tower, while a new cardiology wing is being built with a budget of Rs 37 crores. Foundation work has already started for the cardiology wing to be built on five storeys. Its structure work is being claimed to be completed by April-May. Cardio patients will get all the facilities under one roof in this wing.

The administration is trying to speed up the work from January. IPD Tower is to be 24 storeys, but 12 floors are being built in the first phase. The ground floor work will be completed in January.
