Jaipur: Barely two days after a 27-year-old man was shot to death allegedly at the behest of his in-laws in Jaipur, yet another honor killing case was reported in Rajasthan.

A man beat up his daughter and then threw her into a canal when she insisted to marry the boy of her choice in Bharatpur. The body was found floating in the canal on Friday. The police have detained the father and said that interrogation with him is going on.

The incident was reported in Bharatpur’s Atalband police station area.

A girl, identified as Neelam, was into a relationship with a youth living in her neighborhood.

When her parents came to know about it, they asked her to stay away from her boyfriend. They wanted her to marry someone else, but the girl refused. She insisted that she would marry only the boy of her choice.

When her prayers to let her tie the knot with her boyfriend fall on deaf ears, she eloped with him. The family members found her in Kota and brought her back to Bharatpur.

On Wednesday, the girl got into a verbal argument with her family members.

The infuriated father, identified as Chandrabhan  beat up the girl severely. He then threw her into a canal. On Thursday, he registered a missing person report with the police, telling them that his daughter was missing.

The body of Neelam was spotted floating in Sujan canal.

The police found some inconsistencies in the statement of the father. They interrogated him. He allegedly confessed to the crime.
