Jaipur: A WhatsApp message played an important role in stopping illegal child marriage of two minor girls in Jodhpur’s Osian area.
Rajasthan high court judge Gopal Krishan Vyas received a WhatsApp message that appealed him to stop child marriage of two minors. The message contained all the necessary information about the identify of the girls and that of their family members. Justice Vyas was on leave and there were no proper identification details of the sender, but he took the message seriously and forwarded it to a lower court judge for further investigation.
The school record of the two children was examined and it proved that they were minors. As per the school records, the elder girl was 17-year-old while the younger one was 14-year-old. The lower court judge immediately issued a prohibition order and bound the family members not to go ahead with their wedding plans for the girls.
The girls were to be married on March 29 and March 30 respectively.
A magistrate along with the local station house officer (SHO) visited the family of the girls and warned them against the marriage as it was illegal under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act. They also served prohibitory orders.
