JAIPUR: A college student took her own life, accusing a neighbour of harassing her in the Kho-Nagorian area of Jaipur.
The 19-year-old girl, identified as Saloni Rawat, had expressed her distress to family members, stating, “I am troubled by the torture of the neighbor. I’m tired, I can’t live anymore.”
In response, her brother has filed a case against the neighboring lawyer and his wife, accusing the couple of abetment to suicide.
According to the police, Bharat Lal, daughter of Saloni Rawat, a first-year BA student at Maharaja Vinayak College in Paldi Meena Agra Road, tragically ended her life by hanging herself.
The incident occurred on the morning of June 16 while Saloni was alone at home with her mother, as her sister and father had gone to work. At around 10:30 a.m., Saloni’s mother left for a nearby temple. Upon her return, she discovered her daughter hanging from a noose.
Devastated by the sight of her hanging daughter, Saloni’s mother began to cry out. Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, rushed to their aid.
With the help of these neighbors, Saloni was immediately rushed to SMS Hospital. Due to the unavailability of an intensive care unit (ICU), Saloni was transferred to JNU Hospital in Jagatpura. Saloni succumbed to her injuries and passed away during her treatment on Friday morning.
Saloni’s brother, Abhishek, has filed a case accusing their neighbor and his wife of abetting the suicide. The complaint alleges that the neighbor, who happens to be an advocate, had fabricated false cases against Saloni.
Taking undue advantage of his profession, Siyaram allegedly subjected Saloni and her family to frequent visits to the police station and court. This relentless torment led Saloni into a state of depression, ultimately driving her to take her own life.
Abhishek, in his statement, revealed that the conflict arose due to waterlogging outside their residence, leading to debris being dumped on the road.
The wife of the advocate initiated an argument over this issue, which escalated to physical assault against Saloni. On March 28, the advocate filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Saloni, her mother, and her sisters at the Khoh Nagoriyan police station.
The family also faced allegations of harassment, with Saloni’s father being accused in a separate case. The family had lodged a complaint with the Municipal Corporation, requesting permission to establish a cow shelter.
A police officer said that a complaint has been lodged by Saloni’s brother, Abhishek, accusing the neighboring husband and wife of abetting her suicide. An FIR has been registered, and they are currently conducting an investigation into the matter.
