Jaipur: If you didn’t venture out of your home on Tuesday evening, you have definitely missed out on some breathtaking views you seldom come across in the city. On the occasion of Independence Day, many government offices, monuments and popular travel destinations were beautifully decorated with lights.
Among these stood out Police Commissionerate building which is housed in 141-year old Government Hostel. From Tuesday, it will remain lit up every night from 8 pm to 10 pm. A private company – Energy Efficiency Services Limited – has been entrusted with the task of keeping the building decked up throughout the year.
The Government Hostel building had been constructed in 1869. Maharaja Sawai Man Singh had built this building to accommodate the guests of royal family. Over the last 14 decades, the building was turned into a Dak Bungalow, then a hotel and finally Government Hostel. It now houses the police commissionerate.
People on Tuesday visited Statue Circle, Ambedkar Circle, Janpath, JDA and many other government buildings and tourist attractions that were decked up to mark the occasion.
