Jaipur: The Customs department seized 0.5 kg gold in yet another gold smuggling incident reported at Jaipur airport on Friday. The man carrying gold has arrived at Jaipur via Oman airways. The suspect is being quizzed.
A large number of gold smuggling cases have been reported at Jaipur airport this year.
According to the customs officials, the suspect came to the notice of security personnel due to his suspicious behavior. After the security check, around 0.5 kg of gold was found with him.
More than 200 kg of gold was seized at the Jaipur Airport over the past few weeks. Smugglers used different methods to hide the gold from security forces. In one case, the smuggler kept the gold in his socks, while the other one was hiding it in sandals.
With the increasing number of cases, investigative agencies like DRI, CGST, Customs, Income Tax Department, Commercial Tax Department with CISF and airport authorities have been put on alert. The agencies are trying to bust the networks involved in gold smuggling.
