Jaipur: In yet another incident of gold smuggling, the customs department seized 400 gm gold from a passenger at Jaipur International Airport late on Tuesday.
The gold is estimated to be worth about Rs 12 lakh. The suspect reached Jaipur from Bangkok in an Air Asia flight. He is said to be a resident of Uttar Pradesh. He was smuggling gold from Bangkok. He came under the radar of security personnel due to his suspicious behaviour.
The accused man came in Air Asia flight number FD-130 from Bangkok to Jaipur on Tuesday night.
According to the customs officials, security forces at the airport spotted something suspicious while scanning the accused passenger and his luggage. After the security checkup, 400 gm gold was found with him.
Senior customs officials were called to the security check barrier. The passenger was taken into custody. Further investigation with him is going on.
The customs department seized around 2 kg of gold from two passengers at Jaipur International Airport on Monday. The gold was estimated to be worth about Rs 64 lakh. The two men came to Jaipur from Bangkok. They had colored the gold in black to confuse the security personnel.
With the increasing number of cases, investigative agencies like DRI, CGST, Customs, Income Tax Department, Commercial Tax Department with CISF and airport authorities have been put on alert. The agencies are trying to bust the networks involved in gold smuggling.
