‘Gold pickle’ smuggler arrested at Jaipur airport, 730g liquid gold sized

Jaipur: The customs department arrested a man for smuggling 730g gold in liquid form at Jaipur International Airport on Sunday. Initially the security agencies believe that it was pickle, but when the liquid was scanned through security scanners, the smuggling came to the light.

The man was travelling in an Air Arabia flight to Jaipur. To trick the security arrangement, he liquefied and hid the gold in the form of pickle and was carrying it in a plastic container as a food material.

The seized gold is said to be worth Rs 23 lakh in the international markets, said a custom official.

According to the custom officials, this is the first ever case they have caught of gold smuggling in which the smuggler tried to smuggle the gold in the form of liquid. He even added the small gold biscuits and pieces to the mixture. 

It took custom officials over 10 hours to separate the gold from the mixture. The gold was present in the form of small pieces and biscuits in the mixture.

The accused was caught while he was getting through the security checkpoint, added officials.

The gold was seized and the smuggler was arrested. The team is questioning the man to get further details on the smuggling network that he was part of, added officials.

The officer said that the man will be produced in a court. Further investigation is going on.

According to the customs officials, smugglers are using different ways to smuggle gold. Some hide it in cardboard sheets, some in their rectum, in sandals, socks, books, earphones and what not.
