Gehlot govt forms State Mental Health Authority in Jaipur for care of psychiatric patients

JAIPUR: In a move to prioritize the well-being of mental patients, the Gehlot government has established a dedicated authority.
The State Mental Health Authority has been formed in accordance with the Mental Health Care Act-2017 and the State Mental Health Authority Rules-2018. A gazette notification has been issued in this regard.
Shubhra Singh, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Medical and Health Department, said that the State Mental Health Authority has been created to ensure comprehensive care for mental health patients.
The authority will convene a meeting to draft state-specific rules and regulations regarding mental health. The formation of mental health boards is also in the pipeline. The meeting will address the rights of mental patients, paving the way for their protection and empowerment.
In Mental Health Authority, Additional Chief Secretary has been designated as Chairman, Mission Director National Health Mission as Chief Executive Officer and Director Public Health as Member Secretary. Apart from these, there will be ex-officio and non-official members in this authority.
